About The Role

We are looking for a Full Stack Developer to join our growing development and eduTEAMS team, seeing a project through from conception to delivery.

GÉANT operates a pan-European network to support researchers and academics across Europe and the world. In addition, GÉANT has a portfolio of Trust and Identity services, built on federated access - users log in via their home institution once and they can then access a range of services offered by different Research and Education establishments in other countries and locations. One of these Trust and Identity services is eduTEAMS, developed and operated by GÉANT to enable users to create and manage virtual collaborations to access and share common resources and services using federated identities from eduGAIN and trusted Identity Providers.

As a full stack developer working primarily on eduTEAMS, you’ll spend a significant amount of your time initially designing and developing our front-end web architecture to improve our user experience. As well as ensuring that the visual design of applications is appealing, you’ll also be responsible for developing and managing our databases and applications and designing and developing effective APIs. You’ll test software to ensure responsiveness and efficiency, and troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade software when needed. Collaboration is important in this role as you’ll be working closely with both the development teams and product managers on design of software solutions.

About You

As our ideal candidate, you will love innovation and be a team player who likes to share ideas on software solutions that can improve eduTEAMS functionalities, building the front-end of applications through appealing visual design.  You will be working in an international and distributed team and engaging with the research and education community in Europe and beyond, while designing client-side and server-side architectures.

Whilst you need to have a certain level of technical skill and experience, the key thing for us is your proactive approach to work; we’re looking for someone tenacious who, when faced with challenging problems, will tackle them with drive, energy and creativity. If you have experience in working with large, complex software projects that would be beneficial, as would the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

You must be proficient with the following skills:

  • Python3
  • Front end languages and frameworks (such as HTML5, CSS, React, Vue.js)
  • Git and Git-based workflows

You will also have experience with:

  • Designing and developing HTTP APIs
  • Building containerised web applications
  • Relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL) and key-value stores (e.g. Redis)
  • Designing and developing web applications for desktop and mobile platforms;
  • Working with Agile practices, particularly Scrum and Kanban;
  • Designing and developing effective APIs;
  • Testing software to ensure responsiveness and efficiency;
  • Troubleshooting, debugging and upgrading software;
  • Familiarity with distributed architectures using microservices, building features and applications with a mobile responsive design and the ability to write technical documentation is also desirable.

You will need to be fluent in English with the ability to build and maintain excellent working relationships with team members across multiple cultural environments.

Work at GÉANT and you’ll be supporting critical research into sustainable energy, deep space, high-energy physics, earth observation, environmental disasters, medicine and much more!

As well as a competitive salary, you’ll receive excellent benefits including a generous holiday allowance,  company pension scheme, option for medical insurance, and a 5% end of year allowance.  We are keen to help our people to become the best at what they do so you will have plenty of opportunity to develop your skills through training.  In addition, at GÉANT you’ll be able to work flexibly, spending a couple of days in the office each week with the rest of the time spent working remotely, although you can be based full time in the office if you’d prefer. You will need to be physically located in the country where the role is based and live within commuting distance of our office.

The role will be offered on a fixed term basis for an initial period of up to 2 years.
